Fabled Lands

This book is a little different from the ones previously presented.
This book provides the possibility to create you own adventure.
It's a Role Play - Book.

  Storytelling, Fantasie, Phantasie, Geschichte

Title: Fabled Lands
Authors: Jamie Thomson & Dave Morris
Publisher: Fabled Lands Publishing

Set-up

In whole twelve books of the fabled lands series were published. They don't follow a chronological order, but represent certain locations, f.e. a country.

Starting the book, a own character can be created or a pre-planned one can be selected.
Each character has an individual set of skills, which can be improved through the book and build the base of challenges, which involve to cast a dice.
Coming from chapter one, each decision can send you all over the book or even into another part of the series. This is necessary as some missions are spread over several books as they involve different countries.

Review

*Spoiler alert*

My boyfriend and, we love these series. On Sundays we are living our addiction and this day is partly dedicated to play together.

Admittedly, the book starts a little slow, because you have to go to the right places in order to enjoy some action. Also the characters of the first book are very weak. So to win challenges some luck has to be involved, which can be great fun, but also awfully frustrating, when you have to pass a lot of thrilling adventures, but can't do them right away.

However, once you really got started and have won a challenge, it is hard to stop. Because of the structure of the books, your decisions can take you anywhere and it never get's boring.
Also, the books are not as gentle as video games. This means, that there are a lot of possibilities to get robbed of all your belongings or even die. Of course this isn't a nice experience, but it enhances the excitation every time you face a challenge.
There are a lot of unexpected twist in the book as well and mostly you have to let yourself be guided by chance, because it is almost impossible to foretell an outcome of a decision.
Overall you grow very fond of you character and the adventures are almost endless as you need weeks or even months to "complete" a book and there are twelve of them.

I hope, you will have as much fun with this series as we do!

Tipps

I love playing in these books together with my boyfriend. It is no problem (or perhaps even easier) to play alone, but then you don't get to share your journey. That's why I would highly recommend to recruit a Role Play-Buddy.

Also the book can be really cruel sometimes, so we came up with a new rule: We allowed ourselves to buy a "Save Point" every now and then to be on the safe side and not have to start quite from the beginning. But to make matters no too easy, the price doubles every time you buy a save point. So the first save point should cost about 100 Shards.
